An Introduction to Horseback Archery
Clinic 1 – Archery Skills for Horseback Archers

Lance Bishop, President, Seawinds Horse Archers Club, Canning, NS

Hampton Riding Centre, 560 Lakeside Rd, Smithtown, NB, May 11&12, 2019

Unleash your inner warrior with Kassai Horsearchery International Judge Lance Bishop! Once the most formidable martial art on Earth, horseback archery was recently revived from antiquity by the great Hungarian Master Lajos Kassai to become one of the world’s fastest growing equine disciplines and competition sports. Join us in this introductory clinic and learn the unique fast-loading and shooting techniques designed for battle from the back of a cantering horse!

Part of a clinic series, this first two-day training event will provide a solid general introduction to horseback archery. Focus will be on learning the archery technique required to develop your ability to shoot arrows quickly and accurately while keeping your focus entirely on the target. This teaching is done on the ground without real horses. We learn a series of dynamic drills and martial forms that train core strength and an intuitive ability for shooting with balance and in rhythm with the horse. We learn to set goals, monitor personal development, and create a training plan for discipline, progression, safety, and success. This clinic will briefly present preparation and training for the archery horse to give a wide general introduction and present how and when to combine the archery with riding skills. Later clinics in the series will focus on these aspects in much greater detail with our horses present.

Prior archery or riding experience is not required and age is not restricted. This clinic will be active and physical so an ability to stay focused and active is required. Participants should bring appropriate clothing and footwear to allow comfortable movement and running. Come prepared to sweat!
Cost: $120 for two days.

For participants requiring horsearchery equipment, a horsebow and arrows can be rented for the clinic for an additional $30. Optionally, you may order your own horsebow and 6 arrows for delivery at the clinic for $180 (7 weeks shipping).
